    "Endings and New Beginnings"

We don't need to focus on the world in all its turmoil to become aware of how precarious times are - right here in our own backyard!  Over two thousand years ago, it was written,"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed; for it is necessary to take place, but the end is not yet."  (Matthew 24:6)
Today, you will hear of death, disease, wars, and fake news. Again, you will be told, do not be alarmed. You are being told to be smart, be wise, take good care of yourself.  We're adding to that - Stand in your Truth, let your Spiritual wisdom guide your thoughts and decisions and dispel your worries or fears.

Perhaps it is no mistake that these things we are so concerned about are happening during the season of Lent, as we surrender the darkness and look to the Light of the Resurrection at Easter.

Is it conceivable that we may be ending divisiveness and will unite to care for each other?  Are we about to create new possibilities for a world where kindness prevails? Is this the conclusion of a period in your personal history, where you may now go forward to co-create a whole new direction for this journey called Life?

Consider bringing a friend who may benefit from this news.  The beautiful thing about our spiritual community is that on Sunday mornings we see the best in each other. We pray together, learn together, and find sincere spiritual fellowship.

   "Nonresistance:

Giving up or Spiritual Power?"

Fasten your seat belts for this one!  Non-resistance has been defined as: "the practice or principle of not resisting authority, even when it is unjustly exercised". It is also considered a principled form of pacifism.  In this country, we've witnessed it in many forms, including wartime conscientious objectors, many of whom were guided by their faith, yet rejected, and even ostracized by their peers.
We are currently in a challenging period of resistance to something almost every day.  How do we achieve the human rights we long for, the peace we desire, a rise in the standards of human behavior, in an "us and them" society?  Why does it require a "fight for it" mentality?

Take a deep breath, and join us this Sunday as we explore the possibilities of prayerful, peaceful resolution. Practicing the Presence can produce divinely inspired actions, that are far more effective than that which our reactive minds may produce.  Perhaps when we trust the Power of God we will be empowered with decisions based on Divine Wisdom.  Then, we can exhale in Peace.

  "Beyond the Boundaries"

We live in a world that is increasingly divisive and protective of it's borders.  We draw a line at what is ours and what we will share.  We worry that there is not enough.

Most of us were raised to be a good girl or boy and follow the rules. Parents and teachers were happier if we just did what we were told.  We chose rule-followers as life partners or business partners, because it made us feel safe in an environment of order.

What happens when we move beyond the boundaries, raise our expectations, and realize that we may release these imposed limitations and give ourselves permission to become more of what we're meant to be?

Can you be brave and allow yourself the vulnerability to find and become your authentic self?  Can you move beyond the wall that may be surrounding your heart, confining your expressions of love?

Join us this Sunday as we embrace the freedom and courage to explore our true self and the God-given tools to fulfill our deepest desires!

Consider bringing a friend who may enjoy the benefit of this news.  The beautiful thing about our spiritual community is that on Sunday mornings we see the best in each other.   "It's All in The Mix!"

Is there truly a formula for Love, for Happiness, and for Prosperous Living?
Are there ingredients that are mystical, magical and mysterious, known only by the fortunate or lucky one's who seem to have it all?

If so, then why does the world appear to be so troubled? Do you ask yourself, "What ingredients am I missing?"  Let's take a look at the life we demonstrate and perhaps add a few things into the mix!  The results may be an absolute work of art!

We invite you to join us this Sunday to be reminded of the
Perfect Ingredients

 "One Step After Another"

We like to talk about this journey called Life, as if we are always taking steps forward. Truthfully, we all know that this journey is often a few steps forward and then something comes along and you are knocked a few steps backward. That is when we draw from the courage within, to step up or step out and do what needs to be done.

Sometimes we step back, to take a better look.
Sometimes we step aside, out of fear or uncertainty.
Sometimes we need directions on this journey, because
we have absolutely no idea where this life journey is leading.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had recipes for success for all our challenges?
Wait a minute - We Do! We have all the wisdom we need to do that which is ours to do.  Perhaps you need a little coaching on a subject!

We invite you to join us this Sunday and be reminded that with God all things are possible!  Coming together on Sunday mornings provides the lessons needed to make your life's journey a road to happiness...a road to peace

 "Silent Unity Prayer Service"

Welcome to February, the month about Groundhogs, Valentines, Presidents, and Rats (Chinese New Year).  All of which gives us a lot to pray about.

You can pray about the weather, or the healing of our planet.
You can pray about the Loves of your life or the Love you desire.
You can pray about Washington and Lincoln with great gratitude.
You can pray that the Year of the Rat will bring you good health and good fortune!

The important thing to know and understand is that
PRAYER CHANGES THINGS

Of all of the subjects February brings, let's add wholeness to all of it.  Let's add more Love to all of it.  Let's create a peaceful nation by starting within ourselves.  Together, with the Power of Prayer within each of us, we can make this worlds a better place!

 "Wake Up"

There is an old joke that asks  - When you wake up in the morning, do you say "Ugh.. good God, it's morning" or do you say "Good Morning God!"

It's pretty safe to say that it's most likely that none of us wakes up like the girl in the photo above.  But do you wake up with a smile?  Or do you wake up thinking about all the tasks you may have to accomplish?

Has anyone ever asked you to to "Wake Up" to your reality?  No one experiences life exactly the way that you do.  Some of us are kings and queens of denial.  When you look at the conditions of your life do you like what you see?  Even LOVE what you see?  If not,  then join us this Sunday and "wake up" to your own power to live a life you will LOVE!

Let's find Joy in the Journey and Peace in the Process!

 "Metaphysics and Truth"

In order for us to have clarity for our 2020 Spiritual Vision, this week we will revisit our metaphysical principles.  This is the perfect time for a literal lesson in Truth.  These are the principles we cling to when life seems upside down.  These are the principles we live by and trust, so that we are always moving forward and never stopped by fear.

Sometimes, we get so caught up in circumstances that we forget the Truth of the matter, or the Truth of who we are and of what we are capable.  Let us hold on to the Truth this year and know we can enjoy of the journey!

Consider bringing a friend who may need to learn to see the Truth of God. The beautiful thing about our spiritual community is that on Sunday mornings we see the best in each other.  "SIGNS"

This Sunday's forecast is 62 degrees and sunny (oh wait, that is in San Diego).  Perhaps this is a sign that it's a good day to come to church!  Rev. Joanna has returned to us and we're in for a great Sunday!

During these tumultuous times, we all look for signs to point us to answers for the questions we are all asking, and for answers we have not yet heard.  It's a new year and there is a lot going on...some anticipated, some dreaded.

How can we let the signs of the times empower us rather than cause fear, doubt and limited experiences?  Let's explore the possibilities for creating a meaningful 2020!

Best selling author Piero Ferrucci, declares that by facing our fears, we create courage, strength, and the determination to make things better.  So let us look at the new year with our own sign of "Good Vibes Only"!

2020 - A New Year  -  A New Decade!

Before you make any 2020 resolutions - Let's look back on the past decade. Get out your journal, or a few sheets of paper and review the last decade, year by year.  Where were you in 2010?  What was the best thing that happened to you that year and each of the following years.  Choose that for which you can feel grateful and write it down.  Perhaps you can accumulate enough gratitude that will create an enthusiastic viewpoint with which you may go forward into the new year

20/20 is also a term for perfect vision.
Let us claim 2020 as a year for Perfect Spiritual Vision.
Let us eagerly anticipate a new decade of progress
For the human spirit and for all of humanity.

This is the ceremony that resembles a cleansing and allows us a fresh new start!

Let us gather to consider Joy...where we find it and how to have more of it.
Let us gather to Pray for Peace, which has been called the ultimate healing.
Let us gather for greater expressions of Love.

 "Through the
Eyes of a Shepherd"

Now here is a viewpoint that we don't often think about in the Christmas stories! We have treasured the little Drummer Boy, summoned by the wise men, who witnessed the giving of luxurious gifts to this new baby born in a humble setting,
and desired to make his own contribution.  There have been pageants created for children written from the viewpoint of the animals present at this birth.  But the Shepherds...not so much.

We do think of them as humble men, working the night shift.  We are told they were informed by a choir of Angels that a Christ child was born in Bethlehem and that they could follow an exceptional star to find him.  And they did.  Can you imagine the excitement?  Or the daring decision to move their flocks or leave them behind? Did an unbeliever stay behind with the sheep and miss the whole event?

Don't you find this interesting that both the exalted and the humble were invited to witness something so magnificent without knowing how this would forever change the world?  Well then, join us this Sunday and bring a friend who may want to hear another viewpoint on this wonderful story.

"Getting at the Parts"

The sweet puppy picture above is actually a 500 piece holiday puzzle. If you are a person who does holiday puzzles, then you know how frustrating it is to have a section almost completed, but there seems to be one or two pieces missing. You are certain of it...for you have looked for it at a length of time that has stretched your patience. Then one of your children walks up to the puzzle, picks up a piece and asks "Is this what you're looking for?"  And...
of course it is! How does this happen, year after year?

Well, we are all like puzzles.  Sometimes, we feel like we have it all together. Sometimes, we feel we have a few missing pieces.  The good news is that the puzzle named YOU is whole and perfect and all the parts are there, even though you may not see them.

Join us this Sunday and let us show you how to find all the parts you think are missing.

"Prayer Power"

"Thank you, Thank you.  By this afternoon I felt a shift toward happiness that I have been longing for since we started this mission to save my In-laws from themselves."

"As we prayed about a crisis at work, I felt a peace wash over me.  I thought it meant I would easily find something new.  Instead, the whole crisis was smoothed over, gracefully. Thank you!"

"When I went to the doctor, he actually apologized.  The test results were negative!  Thank you for your prayers..."

These are each true messages received from those for whom we have prayed.  You can have these same results when you pray for yourself or your loved ones.  We are merely focused on the Power and Presence of God.
In Jill Bolte Taylor's book titled My Stroke of Insight, she tells us of her ability to feel Oneness with God and the entire Universe, in a complete right brained experience, while her left brain was experiencing a stroke.  In her recovery process, she realized she could dissuade her fears by returning to that feeling of Oneness with God.  We can all accomplish this through prayer.

Let the Peace of God wash over you in prayer
Let fear turn into solution and healing through prayer
Let us know we can experience a Oneness with God

Many of us travel the countryside during this Autumn season, just to see the incredible beauty of nature.  Driving a road as in the above photo, one might be completely absorbed by the surrounding display and filled with gratitude.

Those who consider their life a Spiritual journey, may ask and answer life's questions differently than the religion of their childhood.  We know there is beauty in the faith of most all religions. In Unity, we find the attributes of beauty and peace along with the empowerment of our own unique individual expressions of our Creator.  We acknowledge that Spirit lives within us!

In that knowledge we gain the courage to try...when life has met with a difficult circumstance. We gain the hope of healing when needed.  We cultivate a deeply felt experience of the Divine Presence and are inspired to live our best life.

At this time in our history, the world is marked with extremes.  Every where you look, you see busy people.  We drive in suffocating traffic,  and we're distracted to the point of being absent.  Our values seem to be becoming distant or even abstract.

In what appears as a critical situation for our culture, we can find the beauty of prayer as a lifesaver.  It answers our deepest needs.  It can be spontaneous and an immediate way back to ourselves.

Let the beauty of this prayer service bring you back to who you really are.   In your Oneness with God, and all that is holy and good, you will feel the beauty of Peace.

"Unity in Diversity:

The Many Voices in My "Head"

Diversity is defined as  a state of variety... in anything... could be music, literature, landscapes, even styles of dress.  Do you dress like a hippie or royalty?  Do you live in a desert or on a mountain top?

Yet, when the word "diversity" shows up these days, we most often think of the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc..

We have made strides in greater understanding of the wide range of cultures that form this nation.  The "melting pot" is working - more for some than others - yet we can see a future that blends the nature of our humanness with the nature of the Divine, where we will find Harmony and Peace.

"Practicing the Presence"

Have you ever been in a situation where you simply spoke out loud "God - Where are you right now? Have you forgotten me?"  When chaos arises all around you do you ask yourself, "Where is God in this? How did this happen?"

Have you ever known a person who seems to be so very calm in an emergency situation, knowing exactly what to do, while others fall apart or are completely irrational?  Are they gifted or are they turning  inward to their Source?

Let's talk about the spectrum from Panic to Peace to see where your reactive mind dwells, and discover the discipline that will keep you in the Presence!

"The Cry of the Prophets"

This week we will take a deep look at this biblical phrase and see how clearly it applies to each of us today.  The cries of the biblical prophets were born of fear and oppression, and were most often a call for justice.  Probably the easiest to recall is "Let my people go!" or "Why hast thou forsaken me?" Both of those prayer calls were responses to man's inhumanity to man.

During the times of the unconscionable violence of thousands of years ago, which actually still occurs today, we are challenged to question everything we believe in.  We must, each of us, at the lowest times in our lives, have had that same desperate cry...pleading for an answer to life's toughest questions.

Yet, we ask a God to which we  attribute as the source of all good,
all Love.

This will be a Sunday Service you won't want to miss.  Consider bringing a friend who may need to hear this message. The beautiful thing about our spiritual community is that on Sunday mornings we see the best in each other. We embrace each other with a traditional Unity hug, pray together, learn together and find sincere spiritual fellowship.

      "Are You My Sister?
        Are You My Brother?"

This week we will welcome the return of Rev. Sherry Schultz as our guest speaker and look forward to her message. This will definitely be interesting!

Have you ever stood at a card rack in a Hallmark store looking for the perfect card for your brother or sister and read the cards that described sibling relationships of which you cannot relate or only wished you could? There is a famous quote that says "Friends are God's way of apologizing for our families" Of course it is attributed to Anonymous, as whomever so famously said this, did not want their family to know it.

We are also told that we are all children of God.  In the current culture that appears as divisive, perhaps it is time for us to be reminded of who we are.

"Oneness will prevail on earth.  It cannot be any other way"

A Journey to Oneness, by Rasha

How do we come together with such openness to see each other as a spiritual brother or sister? It is more important now, than ever!

   "Silent Unity Prayer Service"

Many of our members can attest to the fact that prayer changes things.

Prayer can be the conduit for a healing that you are seeking.  You may receive answers to the questions you are asking.  You may begin to understand and experience the Power of God's Love for you.

Let this service move you from a mind filled with worry or fear to a heart that feels the Peace of God, so that you may know the Presence that assures you that all is well.

Ask  - What is mine to do?  In that same Peace of God, you may be given and idea, or shown a path to take that may not yet have even occurred to you.

Release it all!   Let Spirit lead your life!

   "For the Love of Life!"

How many times in the past week have you said "I just love my Life!" ?
Kudos to those of you who answered -"Many Times" - and for those of you who had to stop and think, then answered -"um, Zero Times"... then this is a week to come to Unity of Kent!

How much of the beauty of Life itself, do we take for granted? We live in the greenest state in the country! This Sunday, let's fill our hearts with Love for the people we care about in this life, and the gifts of friendships and family. Do you love where you live? Do you love the food you eat?  Do you love the opportunity to share a smile with strangers?  Do you love the freedom to choose to join a spiritual community such as ours?

Join us this Sunday as we recommit to the Love of Life!

"Unity - Is that Like the Unitarians?"

This is going to be a great Sunday as we join together for our Annual Sunday Picnic in the Park!  Please be sure to call the office if you haven't already signed up to join us - to help set up, to transport, to bring food, and of course to get directions. We are so fortunate to have the perfect space each year for this event.  So much beauty!

As a member of Unity, we often invite others to join us for a service. Frequently when doing so, many of us have been asked the question, "Is that like Unitarians?" Perhaps most churches do have similarities and some even common ground, yet there are differences as well.  Let's take another look at the aspects of both Unity and Unitarians which will give you the answers to this common question.

This service will also iterate the reasons why we love Unity, and why we love our spiritual community.  Let's enjoy the outdoors this weekend, taking in the beauty of our surroundings, and the beauty in each other.

"An Attitude of Wholeness"

Wholeness is defined as a state of complete and harmonious whole.  It also is referred to as unity.  Perhaps the founders of Unity were thinking "Wholeness in body, mind, and Spirit" as the life we are meant to live.  Surely it is something we strive for...Right?

But sometimes we feel broken, damaged or incomplete.  What does an attitude adjustment have to do with that? What do our values or faith have to do with the state of wholeness?

Join us this Sunday as we explore how our attitude affects our health, our relationships and the outcome of each day.  Let's find the path that returns us to Wholeness.

"Silent Unity Prayer Service"

Here we are at the beginning of the August, and as is our tradition, we begin each month with a beautiful prayer service. This new month arrives along with the high summer season, and gives us the opportunity to experience just how much...

      PRAYER CHANGES THINGS.

Because we know that we can co-create with God, we know that we have the power to call forth a healing, receive greater understanding, or to know the path that is ours to follow.  We can receive Divine Guidance on something we feel the need to resolve.

We can align with Divine Love and blissfully let it flow through us.  We can be inspired to take a new direction in life or even receive a vision for our future.

There is great power in our prayer services.  Join us this Sunday as you may receive the answers to your deepest questions or find a beautiful pathway to peace

"What Do You Wonder About?"

Many of the people who come to our church are lifelong seekers of the Truth.  A large number are those who were raised in the more traditional faiths with lots of restrictions. There were rules, many rules. Unity encourages and emphasizes greater individual growth in the atmosphere of a Spiritual Community with Loving support.

During these tumultuous times, we all have questions - Right??

We see life differently - How?

We still study ancient text - Why?

We teach personal growth - Why?

We go within for everything - Why?

We say God does not punish us - How does that work?

What about the Sacraments? - Why don't we do them?

So much to know - so much to learn............!

Consider bringing a friend, who may be considering our church, but needs some answers.  You just might help them find their spiritual path!

Special Guest Speaker

Rev. Sherry Schultz,
Unity Minister

This week we will welcome Rev. Sherry Schultz, who may be familiar to many of you.  She has traveled a beautiful life path since our last visit with her.  For those who may not recall, Rev. Sherry graduated from Unity School of Religious Studies and is an ordained Unity minister.

Her spiritual life path has brought her to Franciscan Hospice & Palliative Care where Rev. Sherry is also the Manager of Volunteer Services and Community Integration. She has also studied Occupational Therapy at University of Puget Sound.

This is a woman who lives a life of service.  Hospice services are heaven-sent to families and bring tender moments during vulnerable, often emotionally painful times.  Hospice workers bring peace with them where ever they go.  It is holy work.  We can all learn something from Rev. Sherry this Sunday!

Another Earth Care Pot Luck will happen on Saturday, the 20th and don't forget to start preparing for the Community Parking Lot and Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, August 3rd.  Details are available at the church on Sunday and on our website.  (See further below)

Consider bringing a friend this Sunday, who may be going through a difficult time and in need of peace of mind. Just being present in this service may answer questions for your own spiritual path!

"Taizé Service"

Millions of churchgoers have proclaimed that the Christmas Candlelight Service is their favorite service of the year.  Then again, they may not have attended a Taizé service, which is also a candlelight service that reaches people worldwide in unity and peace.  This is a deeply moving service that unites us through music, prayer and meditation.  It is done with beauty and grace.  This too, may become a favorite service for you.  We know your heart will open and you will experience a greater expression of Love.

Join us after the service for our study of World Religions.  This week we will explore the tenets of Sikhism.  This fascinating class happens after our coffee, food and fellowship, from 12:00 noon to 4:oo pm.

"Silent Unity Prayer Service"

Did you realize that we are in we are already at the midpoint of the year? If you go online and search for a list of national holidays, you will find that we actually could be celebrating something nearly every day! What a concept!

Nationally, Americans are about to celebrate our Independence Day.  There is a great deal to be grateful for on this holiday and on Sunday we can give thanks for those who have gone before us, to insure that we keep the freedoms that we celebrate.

Our monthly prayer services can also be considered healing services.  We can pray for others, pray for ourselves, pray for clarity, and pray for peace.

Join us for a conversation with God, where we may gain greater understanding of the challenges we face, for ourselves, our church, our country.

Consider bringing a friend who may need a healing, a solution, or peace of mind. There is power in prayer that can create miracles, transformations, and manifestations!

The beautiful thing about our spiritual community is that on Sunday mornings we see the best in each other. We embrace each other with a traditional Unity hug, pray together, learn together and find sincere spiritual fellowship.
